Piksi

Nose: Floral, varnish, fresh apple.

Taste: syrupy, fruity (peach, apple, pear).

Final: As mouth with woody notes at the end.

Overall comment: This is very easy to drink. A real fruit syrup with a bit of spice on the finish. In terms of profile, reminds me of Glenturret 1980 MOS.

Jean-Michel

Colour: Russet.
Nose: Takes time to unfold, but your patience will be rewarded. Lots of personality shining through a slight shyness. Just a great nose, but unusually hard to pin down. Nothing flashy in there. Just a discreet and great deepness, mostly made of stewed dark fruits and lots of organics.
Mouth: Very consistent with the nose. Starts smoothly. Sherry tones grow bigger, along with a nice coastalness (or is it a nice coastality?). Chinese salted plums. Slightly salted. And a pinch of high end caramel. Everything in there is very delicate with a great balance. You could drink liters of this.
Finish: Salty and fruity.
Comment: This whisky is an oxymoron. Shy but deep, discreet but rich… I’ve hardly ever liked a malt that much while being so embarrassed to write some decent notes about it. An unexpected high end Bunnah?

91/1002014

Jeep

Nose: Lively, iodine spray, pepper and a quite distant earthy peat. It all goes very well with the sherry is it more about roasted notes, toasted cocoa. By cons, although it is not very powerful, alcohol is a quite felt
Taste: This is quite flat: a nice infusion of earthy peat / ashy, a little licorice and anise, and it always cocoa sherry. The balance is not sensational. It's quite amazing, aeration is good for him and mouth gains in power
Finish: Long but not very intense liquorice and star anise. Very cool.
Conclusion: A nice whisky, bringing a final pretty cool. It lacks a bit of punch for me, although the mouth evolves positively over time
84/1002014

Arno

Nose: discrete notes of dry peat, with variation of fine wood resin, salt, tree smoke, hints of heather. Also notes of apple and malt. A second tasting reveals more flavors of calcination, rubber.
Taste: bitter mint syrup, woody, then off to the peat with wood smoke and a little salt, dried herbs. A hint of liquorice.
Finale: bitter, salting
Conclusion: a nice peaty, but lacks finish.
85/1002014

Jmputz

Color: Light Mahogany
After some aeration, very nice sherry notes, very "class", both discrete and balanced appear. Nice complexity, despite the lack of intensity in the beginning.
The palate is rich and offers a beautiful range of flavors, combining aromas of coffee, hints of plum jam, all perfectly balanced and always "class" as the nose.
The finish is long and warm and stays perfectly in the nose and mouth registry.
89/1002014

Savoureur

appearance: light amber
nose: medium intensity, well integrated alcohol, candied fruit, sweetness dominates and slight acidity like balsamic vinegar, meaty, cocoa powder, fresh like spring peerage with flowers and herbs
taste: low to medium intensity, well integrated alcohol, in line with the nose but with a little more wood aromas
finish: short to medium

86/1002014

Mars

Nose: lemon, mustard, blond tobacco.
Taste: Lemon, bitterness and sweetness.
Final: Biscuit, bitter. Short to medium lenght.

Comments: The nose is very pleasant, the taste is good but the finish leaves something to be desired and that is unfortunate.
86/1002012

Whiskywardrobe

“Cracking whisky! I really want to know that is this. I love it”
This dram has a copper like color.
Nose (91): (5)more than average. honey, wax, oranges, candies, vanilla, pepper, citrus. Quite an old whisky here
Taste (92): powerful, oily. honey, citrus, spices, apples, vanilla, raisins, wood.
Finish (91): (5)longer than average. honey, wood, spices.

91/1002014

Jbrice

Nose: Very closed to start, unclear sulfur touchesand boiled vegetables (not pejorative). Aeration, frank notes walnut wine and spicy emerge. Touches of red fruits, almonds and wood. The second nose is more on spices.

Palate: The palate is spicy, powerful but controlled. The mid palate is surprisingly salty.

Finale: Average woody notes and saline.

Comments: I would say that it seems to have whiskey aged in sherry casks from aromatic markers, undiluted (or very little) with a mean age. Maybe a refill sherry Highland of an elderly maximum of fifteen years? The lack of complexity and complexity prevents me to love even if I do not hate either. Perhaps it would be better after a few months of aeration / oxidation?
82/1002014

ALouis

Color: Amber
Nose: Requires good ventilation, there is then stewed fruit, dates, spices and a slight peat bottom, on cold ashes.
Palate: The peat is present, a nice peaty sherry, well balanced, very lightly on the rubber but it is discreet and does not disturb the balance. The sherry is about chocolate and orange and peat on the cold ashes, accompanied by marine notes. Some sulfur notes that fade with aeration.
Finish: long on peat and sherry
89/1002012

Alexandre

The nose is spicy at first and discreet, is on dry sherry. It has raisins, almonds and hazelnuts. Over time, it also reveals some chocolate tips and cereals, but all sorely lacking of expressiveness. Adding water makes a much better integration.

The palate confirms the nose: it is a dry sherry alcohol relatively poorly integrated. There are chocolate, nuts and some raisins. Again, the addition of water softens the whole, which however remains of low complexity.

The final, soft and medium length, is on milk chocolate with some farm notes, much more present after addition of water.

In conclusion, a whiskey with well integrated alcohol and very expressive. Probably sherry lovers will find in it other qualities than I did.

Amor57

The first nose is very pleasant coffee, sherry, light tannic oak. Aeration enhances pleasure: orange peel, hazelnut, toasted almond, light smoky, mineral accurate but fleeting. But also coconut milk coffee, burnt rubber, very discrete peat. On the palate is soft, slightly acidic or sour. Intense pepper and slight bitterness alongside are citrus, coffee, licorice, and a background of peat in a nice balance. The final good length for a dominant coffee that gives a bit of tone to underlying milk and a clear liquorice, which persists.
A whisky that requires a lot of ventilation, very pleasant but too sweet, too sugared for my taste.
87/1002014

Alex Kooby

Nose: A nice Sherry nose, varnish, dry fruits, cashew nuts. Anise, fennel, blood orange. Nose rather exuberant at the opening opening fades with time. It becomes very fine. Fruity notes give way to more grain drier notes. A slight peat rears its nose after a few minutes. Quite scalable nose.
Mouth: very light texture. A discreet but pleasant background peat. Fresh, but bitter. Dark chocolate, orangettes quite frank wood notes.
Finish: long and dry, the dried fruit.
88/1002014

Whiskywardrobe

“Superb stuff! Peat and sherry marvel!”
This dram has a tawny like color.
Nose (90): more than average. honey, sulphur, peat, citrus, nuts. Old sherried Japanese single malt style whisky.
Taste (92): powerful, oily. honey, peat, wood, citrus, spices, cinnamon. Very nice.
Finish (91): longer than average. peat, honey, spices, maritime.

91/1002012

Piazzolla

Nose: Soft and elegant. A little too wise anyway. Seems to conceal some complexity, but does not proceed easily.
Taste: Medicinal, a little (too) dry. Rather elegant on some fruits despite a lack of alertness. Veil of smoke and creosote.
Final: evolution of medicinal nuances(synthol, cloves ...).
Conclusion: Atypical what makes it interesting, deserves some attention here ... An old Whisky almost past? Deserves that one take his time.
88/1002012

Jean-Marc

Nose: delicate, complex, distinctive sherry, notes slightly sulphurous
Mouth: woody, nutty, licorice, coffee, raisins, dates
Finale: remains the dominant 'liquorice'
88/1002014

Kundalini

Nose: sherry, antique polish, old oak, cigars
Mouth: at the beginning bitter, later very smooth, dark chocolate, warming
Finish: long

88/1002014

NovA

Nose: beautiful, fresh sweet Sherry, cinnamon, baked apple, dried red fruits, some vanilla, tobacco and fresh herbs, lemonade,
With water: more herbs, more lemon, Blueberry, strawberry.

Palate: Nice refill sherry character, sweet, apple/cider, herbs, leather, peach, more alcohol than on the nose
With water: drier, more leathery, something like vanilla ice cream, (cool) minty, some wood, less alcohol

Finish: long, on sherry and diry notes, alcohol is noticeable
With Water: fresher, warmer, "brighter", but less alcohol

Overall: a very nice dram, which allows to play with water better with water
89/1002014

Malt1972

Colour: amber
Nosing: nutty juicy, oaky but fresh, woody
Tasting: dry sherry (fino?), rich and round, hint of mint and cherries behind
Finish: sherry, cherry brandy, ginger, heavy, long

Comment: Classic whisky. I like this style

88/1002012

Dede

Colour: Pale Amber
Nose: The nose is first rather surprising, fresh slice of apple and ball of vanilla ice cream. Then he's hotter, more consistent with what it's colour suggested. A bit of rubber, some leather, but also greediest notes of raisins, caramel, and the tangerine and coffee and even a little Grand Marnier custard.
Taste: The attack lacks a little power, but not the mid palate, with mandarin, but still "good" and a touch of rubber dark chocolate, then dry sherry flavors.
Finish: Medium length, it is pleasantly sulfur present and the bitterness of dark chocolate mixed with citrus zest.

Conclusion: A very good malt, complex and enjoyable.
89/1002012

Mapi

Color: old gold
Nose: leather, caramel and encaustic.
A classic sherry.
A green touch gives freshness and volume. Interesting.
Palate: sherry. But one thing surprised immediately: the texture is quite light and appears to contradict what I expected after the olfactory examination.
Cherry flavor and caramel and dried fruit.

Final. Balance, milk chocolate.

Lack of pep.

87/1002014

Singlemalt71

Color: Amber
Nose: Subtle sherry notes, spicy, dry and sharp.
Taste: Now you also taste beautiful sherry and wood influences which follow each other well.

Finish: medium and some dryness.

88/1002012

Loic43

Nose: raisins, marzipan, citrus, ripe fruit, peat, pepper, spices, dry sherry, sulfur.

Palate: Ripe fruit, dried fruit, solvent, woody, ash, a little salt. Water accentuates the fruity and woody side.

Finale: average on fruit and wood.

Comment: it's a good malt but sulfur is a problem for me.

83/1002014

Jmputz

Color: Amber
A subtle nose marked by sherry and spices. Some bitterness in the background, giving a certain depth and complexity to the nose of this most pleasant whisky.
A nice complexity on the palate. After a rather spectacular entrance in the mouth, notes of coffee, chocolate in addition to sherry. A fireworks of flavors, mixing alternately acidic and fruity notes and hints of mocha.
The finish is long and of exceptional intensity. It perfectly pronlonge mouth.
90/1002012

Mathieutaz13

nose:
Quite shy at the beginning but the alcohol is well integrated that's something!
I seem to recognize the smell of gingerbread, it seems pretty dry as profile (refill sherry maybe?).
With aeration was a little fruit with orange and ginger spring but this is too good for my taste!

palate:
Fresh attack on orange and lovely on the palate, it is much more dense than in the nose!
Unfortunately it soon becomes woody (spices detected on the nose are present) and liquorice bitterness of the final fails to really balance it out ...
The addition of water (not recommended) gum all the details and only the bitterness and astringency of the final comes out!

Conclusion:
A dram too closed or too simple and a too strong woody side.
80/1002014

Applecross

Nose : Complex nose. Fruits (cherries) in alcohol and sweet chocolate. Strong oak influence, sherry cask. Very little burnt rubber or let's say, sherry sulphur notes.

Palate : Bitter chocolate, cacao, again heavily influenced by the maturation in oak casks, very bitter. Needs water and improves immediately after the addition of a good splash of water

Finish : Medium to long and the bitter aromas stay even longer. Intense and spicy, zesty, bitter finish w/o water. Again, water helps improving the whisky and my rate will be 82 with water and 78 w/o water.

82/1002014

Savoureur

appearance: reddish gold
nose: medium intensity, well integrated alcohol, coffee, chocolate, intensely toasted bread, leeks in early rotting (perceived as pleasant), BBQ sauce
taste: low to medium intensity, alcohol well integrated, a dry and slightly bitter (good wood) basis carries the aromas of the nose
finish: short to medium

Conclusion: A pleasant and complex whisky that lacks in intensity to cross the 90 points milestone

88/1002012

Blackmalt

Colour: deep gold
Nose: Sherry and fresh in the first place. A few incisive with a little coffee with honey and caramel. A sulfur coat. Small woody notes here and there. A little meaty? Perhaps. On the vents, it will become waxy and dusty as an old piece of furniture. It remains delicate and a little too quiet for me. I feel it a little closed.
Dry mouth and slightly bitter. Black coffee without sugar. Wood and spices. Rather hot.
Long, bitter coffee the same as for the mouth. A little spice, but further back. this time.

Comment: 84 as a presence of alcohol is quite present in the nose and bothers me. It's a shame because it remains good.
84/1002012

Dekyriel

Colour: Copper

Nose: Starts on precious wood, rum, leather, gunpowder, brown sugar, honey, prune and plum. Slightly earthy, alcoholic but remains accessible, on dried cigar tobacco leaves. I noticed hints of coconut and sulphur as well.

Will eventually open on more walnuts, with touches of armagnac, of varnish.
Quite a beautiful nose.

Mouth: Unfortunately astringent. Salted. There's a lot of wood going on in there and it's overwhelming. The alcohol isn't integrated just as well as on the nose.

Finish: Tender, woody.

Comment: Its nose offered the promise of an elegant sherry monster but its mouth was not expressive enough and too austere to make it a champion of its category in my view.

82/1002014

Dagde

Color: Amber
Nose: The sherry is already dominant. Tiramisu, caramel and a bit of cork that conceals some greener tips fresh fruit, vegetables and a spicy smoke.
Taste: A feeling is never far from coffee, vanilla, but also more surprising tips, more smoky and spicy chorizo lapidary evocation . It's really nice.
Final: A little disappointing over time. We find the sherry in the finish with vanilla.

Comment: At the opening, the nose is disconcerting with borderline grades. Then there is a lack of precision. The mouth is very pleasant, a gentle roundness that takes the palate. The final is against clear below. The originality of the final product should be noted, a commodity rather rare these days.
86/1002012

Flonews

color : copper light

nose : clearly on spices and stewed ripe fruit with hints of candied orange peel and antique wax. The first notes are marked with alcohol, but it softens quickly developing sweet aromas.

Mouth : explosive without water, wood, sulfur and bitter cocoa. Much less greedy than the nose. With water, the attack is quieter but keeps a spicy side. Cocoa is expressed in a more beautiful way but can not be greedy. The evolution oscillates between bitterness and woodiness.

Final : quite short, dries highlighting the wood.

This is a whisky that did a lot of promises to the eyes and nose, with a fairly frank and friendly fragrance. Very "sherry" profile. The mouth is unfortunately less sweet than the nose with a savage attack and a dry and bitter evolution. There is too much difference between the mouth and nose. Not my cup of tea. Calmed by water but the game does not reveal new scenes.
81/1002014

Roblanza

color: amber
nose: old oak, some dark forest fruits, very full, little spice, coffee, brownies, cacao
taste: very smooth entrance, gets fuller in the mouth, old wood, again forest fruits and spices, the finish is warming and also full flavoured, ending with a spicy note

90/1002012

Amor57

The first nose is between bitterness and acidity. Uninviting does not it? Yet this kind of profile is intriguing. Wood and sulfur are the counterpart to the dressing. This becomes original, especially since the opposition is highlighted by coffee and discrete exotic fruits. Aeration presents a nascent peat, emerging from chaos first: spices (cinnamon, pepper, Jamaica pepper), the meringues. Notes of vulcanized rubber appear here and there. On the palate, the attack is soft and delicate. It begins with a aqueous estonishing passage, before an explosion peat based under control with a lovely fruity spicy, made from bananas and pepper. The finale, a beautiful length, rest on the same notes, which go out slowly leaving only the licorice and orange marmalade, nuts and gingerbread.
A superbly balanced whisky, very pleasant.
89/1002012

Jbrice

Nose: wood, plum, coffee and suffering. Becomes civilized after a long aeration and intensifies its sherry part .
Taste: soft, sweet and mild.
Finish: medium length.
86/1002012

Canis_Lupus

Colour: Old gold, pale amber.
Nose: Nose first tart, raspberry vinegar and lemon marinade, salt, a little leather, tiny hint of tobacco. A little later, the nose is being invaded by notes medicinal, alcohol mint, camphor, chlorophyll, the Vicks ointment.
Taste: Oily, spicy, fruity, slightly woody
Final: In continuation of the mouth, the medicinal notes perceived by the nose are back.

Comment: An amazing profile, two sided. Very playful, unusual. Avoid water.
86/1002012

RX21

Color: Amber
Nose: Fruty, tobacco
Mouth: Tobacco, dried fruits (hazelnuts), spices
Final: Moyenne on dried fruits

87/1002012

Mapi

Gold color with hints of brown
Nose: In the very first time I am seized by a feeling of cold soot and ash. but it fades very quickly to make room for a slightly woody leather and a nice peppery note
Palate: The attack is straightforward. Alcohol brings a nice tension to the tasting. Whisky is tannic, almost drying. It is monolithic but still effective. It hides nothing.
Finale: The length is medium, hot. It is on the leather. the final is a bit dusty. There is clearly a return of sensations perceived in the nose. It ends with pepper.

A beautiful whisky.

87/1002012

Jean-Michel

Colour: Burnished.
Nose: Rich and candied. Both jammy and vibrant, but always fruity. A nice mix between the softness of stewed fruits (cooked strawberries) and the vibrancy of summer ones (nectarine). And oranges too. A hint of peat or is it the burnt wood? Slightly hot. And a slight organic touch (melt butter) not unlike in some Juras.
Mouth: Candied oranges and big ripe red apples. A drop of water opens it up on even more exuberant fruity flavours (peaches, mangoes).
Finish: Becomes dry and mineral, without losing anything of its fruitiness.

Comment: An entertaining malt. Rich and fresh, chewy and vibrant, fruity and elegant. Ben Nevis?

88/1002012

Samhain

Colour: light copper
Nose: The nose is full of nutmeg and resin notes and a little cacao maybe
On the palate spices playing with nutmeg leaving an impression of gingerbread. Then some dates and cacao are following and this lets me think of Christmas. Some drops of water realease a slightly bitter note.

The finish is long, warm and with cacao. I liked this malt very much.

90/1002014

Peb

Color: amber gold

Nose: fruity nose, combining orange odor, pepper and port. A nice sherry a little winey, slightly acidic (orange marmalade), slightly woody. A sweet side: cane sugar, apple.

Mouth: mouth on dry fruits (hazelnuts), round and sweet sherry, spice notes and still a fruity / sweet side. Hint of peat smoke.

Finale: medium, but rather on developing a slightly bitter sherry, dash of salt and pepper. A light smoke also appears. Is increasing to a marine side.

Comment: well done whisky without blemish. It is round and supple, easy drinkable.
87/1002014

Singlemalt71

Nose: Very spicy at first with a whiff of sherry tones, some earthy tones, but dried fruit as well. After a while nice characteristics like some saltiness, wood tones, grassy and hay like.

Taste: Directly nice sweet tones followed by spiciness and some bitter tones.

Finish: Reasonable long, very spicy with again some bitterness at the end.
