Iodine, peat and smoke are dominating fragrances leaving however some room to spicy notes.
In the palate, first a great sweetness, but spices, honey, smoke and peat appear soon for our greatest pleasure.
The finish is rather long, smoky and spicy. Remote sweet hints due to the rum are revealed after a while. A great success.

Rum finish is still unusual in the whisky world. Apart from this Caol Ila version by the independent bottler Ian McLeod, there are some other bottlings like a cask strength from Springbank. This bottle is a real pleasure. All the Islay typical peaty sweetness is present in this very good whisky. The long finish leaves an happiness impression in the mouth. The bottle is unfortunately very hard to find nowadays.

The very good impression this malt let me last time is completely confirmed. The nose recognizes a Caol Ila immediately, due to its peaty sweetness which is so characteristic. The rum finishing adds a kind of smoothness to this complex "maritime" malt.
The finish could have been longer, but this does not affect the quality of this exceptional malt.

A quite difficult to define nose with discrete hints of smoke and peat, but something else, which seems to be superimposed to the classical Calo Ila notes. A kind of farm smell, wet hay but still discrete.
The same kind of sensations in the palate, a kind of mix of traditional Caol Ila with something else. Malty hints in retro-olfaction (beer?) with a kind of veil probably created by the finition. Between salty-smoky and sweet-smoky ...
A rather long and warm finish but quite impersonal, just like the nose and mouth were.
