The nose is very clear and direct. Peat and smoke. A nice kind of oily peat which does not really filter out the nice fruity smells champing at the bit behind an impressive veil of smoke. Even a kind of freshness is guessed even if it is rather difficult to qualify behind all this peat smoke. The palate is really creamy, with no hinder at all from the high percentage of alcohol. A trip between peat and smoke through nice fruity, and others close to chocolate notes. Discrete citrus fruit hints are detected too. The finish is lingering and warm. Peat is still dominating, merged with a nice smoke and some hints of too ripe fruits. Wonderful finish, just lingering and full of nuances.
First nose impressions are pepper, undergrowth smells with some nice fruity hints after a while. A light tingling too. Nice complexity, mix of freshness and bitterness. The whole well balanced.
The first mouth is clearly more aggressive than the nose was. Alcohol is the very first impression, first frankly acid followed by whiffs of bitterness and a clear unbalanced character, and last but not least a quite unpleasant presence of alcohol. After a few minutes of aeration and after adding some drops of water, this whisky gets much more civilised. Alcohol remains a concern, but it presents now a nice complexity and a lovely combination of fruit and peat.
The finish is powerful and lingering. Just a pity that alcohol anaesthetised the papilla's which makes forget the charms of this dram
First tasting was made on a sample, and today we opened the bottle... Could be due to a lack at aeration...
