A typical Caol Ila nose. Plenty of nice oily peat hiding a veil of smoke. The sea is nearby, sea spray and seaweed smells. Salt, iodine, peat and smoke. Enough to make the Islay amateur happy. Nice classical nose. No default at all in the palate. Nice fruity notes keep the peat company. Besides the fruits (apple, citrus, exotic fruits) interesting bitter hints, a light woody touch contributes to the happiness of drinking this whisky.
A flawless mouth but a surpriseless mouth too. Nice classical mouth. The finish prolongs exactly the feelings of the mouth and the nose, with however very nice development on the peat which becomes first spicy and then expresses clear citrus notes,
A finish full of surprises, much more interesting than the mouth or nose were. Lingering and warm. Very nice finish, much less classical than mouth and nose. Very nice bottle.
