Colour: Deep golden. Non chill filtered but coloured.
Nose: Typical classic Laphroaig nose, tasty, very similar to the ¼ Cask. There’s maybe more lime peel and marmalade, this fruitiness in the back seems more to fight than to harmonize fully with the typical iodine peat. Also meadow herbs, waldmeister and peppermint patties (after Eight)
Taste: Great fat and fulfilling mouthfeel, but it’s still the fruits (now also dried banana, whalenut, figs and apples) against the peat with no decision who is bound to win. Still the impression of a not right balanced whisky. Few softer Sherry notes, hints of sea weed and cold cigar ash towards the
Finish: Full and warming, long and better balanced than the first impression may suggest.
Conc.: This whisky leaves me a little confused. I tend to realize that the fine Laphroaig spirit is not made to mess around with too many different casks, for this pricing I prefer 2 bottles of other Laphroaig whisky....
