WDTS (Whisky-Distilleries Tasting sessions)
(Blind tastings)
Session 9

Français | English

Producers who have made this meeting possible are:

  • Les Caves de la Halle, Avallon who sent us 1 bottle (Ledaig 31)
  • Master of Malt participating for the eighth time with 1 bottle
  • Wilson & Morgan who sent us 2 bottles
  • Malts of Scotland who sent us 1 bottle
  • Cognacs Léopld Gourmel (Eilan Gillan) who sent 1 bottle.

The "winners" of this session are:
numero 1 Tobermory Chieftain's (Ian MacLeod) aged 31 years 87
numero 2 Glen Grant Wilson & Morgan Thirty Eight 87
Numero 3 Glen Ord Malts of Scotland 1999, Bourbon Hogshead 86
Coup de coeur Glen Ord Malt of Scotland 1999, Bourbon Hogshead

Coup de coeurthis dimension "favorite" is assigned according to purchase intentions compared to price. This bottle got 12 points during the session.

(followed by Single Highland Malt (Eilan Gillan) with 8 points, Master of Malt 30 years Speyside with 2 points and Glen Scotia, Wilson and Morgan with 1 point)

It is quite difficult to compare whiskys over 30 years as the Tobermory and Glen Grant that each cost over 200 euros with a very young whisky as the 4 years old Single Highland Malt Eilan Gillan which costs 30 euros. We actually face completely different approaches, and I salute the courage Cognac Leopold Gourmel who gave us this bottle knowingly. The approach of Cognac Leopold Gourmel is primarily to present a fresh and supple young malt. In this respect, this bottle is a success despite the relatively low number of points obtained.

Whisky is an alcoholic drink. Let's prefer quality to quantity as the abuse of alcohol beverages can damage the health. Consuming alcoholic drinks during pregnancy, even in small quantities, can seriously affect the health of the child. Consumption of alcohol impairs your ability to drive a car or operate machinery, and may cause health problems.
