WDTS (Whisky-Distilleries Tasting sessions)
(Blind tastings)
Session 5

Français | English

The fifth session of WDTS ended December 24 2011. The time elapsed between this and the previous session due to the difficulty of receiving the bottles these days ...
This session, like the previous was exciting. I want to thank the producers who have sent their whiskies. A big thank you too to the 18 participants who returned their tasting notes in time.
Producers who have made this meeting possible are:

  • The Ardmore distillery who sent us 2 bottles
  • Master of Malt participating for the fourth time, this time with one bottle
  • Wilson & Morgan who sent us 2 bottles
  • Aad van Zuylen who sent us one bottle (Meadowside).

In terms of features of this session there are some surprises. The most expensive malts are not necessarily the best. A big surprise was to see the 100th anniversary Ardmore complete back of the pack while conversely the Malt House of Wilson & Morgan which is a cheap whisky has done very well. It is true that the six whiskies competing end in a handkerchief.
The "winners" of this session are:

numero 1 Dailuaine Master of Malt 27 years old, 1983 85
numero 2 Undisclosed Islay distillery Wilson & Morgan House Malt, Born on Islay 84
Numero 3 Bunnahabhan Wilson & Morgan Heavy Peat 84
Coup de coeur Undisclosed Islay distillery Wilson & Morgan House Malt, Born on Islay

Coup de coeurthis dimension "favorite" is assigned according to purchase intentions compared to price. This bottle got 20 points during the session.
(folllowed by Ardmore traditional cask followed with 14 points, Dailuaine with 9 points, Macduff with 7 points, Bunnahabahin with 5 points and Ardmore 100th anniversary with 1 point)

Whisky is an alcoholic drink. Let's prefer quality to quantity as the abuse of alcohol beverages can damage the health. Consuming alcoholic drinks during pregnancy, even in small quantities, can seriously affect the health of the child. Consumption of alcohol impairs your ability to drive a car or operate machinery, and may cause health problems.
