Description of the whisky

The distillery

North of Scotland distillery
Tullibody
Clackmannanshire

Owner: United Distillers & Vintners (Diageo

Creation date : 1957

The "North of Scotland" distillery has been founded in 1958 by George Christie, who would build the Speyside distillery in Kingussie some years later. The distillery was converted from the old Robert Knox's Forth Brewery, which was created in 1786, not far from the Cambus distillery.
The North of Scotland distillery has been created to produce malt whisky with altered Coffey stills, but after 2 years it was decided to produce only grain whisky.
After only a few years of production, the distillery was closed in 1980 and dismantled in 1993.

The remaing buildings were used as warehouses at the Cambus distillery. Cambus distillery is closed too, and is reconverted in a filling center and warehouse.

A nice fragrance of hazelnut on a peppery background characterizes the nose. In the palate, a great sweetness despite the high percentage of alcohol. Even if the complexity of a single malt is not present, the nutty taste this grain whisky offers is very pleasant, even if the general impression about the taste is a kind of linearity.
The finish is lingering and pleasant, slightly bitter (woody) and dominated by the same sweetness than in the palate. After a while, the woody character (or even better said, the clear nutty taste) dominates clearly.
Quite a nice experience for my first grain whisky.

The nose is marked by fine woody ins, spices and pepper.
In the palate, quite a nice taste and a great smoothness. A relatively simple but very efficient mouth. Hazelnut. The taste palette is rather limited but very pleasant.
A long and woody finish. Still very smooth. A very pleasant whisky.

The first nose is marked by ripe fruit and coconut. Nice complexity. Hints of wood, hints of smoke very nice sherry notes.
The first mouth is extremely pleasant and all the complexity of this nice round whisky develops quickly, without any aggressiveness even if it has lots of character. Still nice sherry presence.
The finish is lingering and fresh. All the complexity of the mouth prolongs for long minutes.|
