The Whisky Galore fait partie du groupe Duncan Taylor, lui-même créé par les frères Rosenberg en 1938. La compagnie Whisky Galore est composée d’un petit groupe d’experts en matière de single malt.
Whisky Galore sélectionne soigneusement son whisky auprès des distilleries, et met le single malt en bouteille sans ajouts de colorants, et sans filtrer le whisky à froid. Les whiskies mis sur le marché par Duncan Taylor sont mis en bouteille après une rigoureuse sélection tant de l'alcool que du tonneau lui-même, et portés à maturité dans les chais de la distillerie productrice. La société dispose d'une chaine d'embouteillage à Huntly.
La collection Peerless, qui a gagné de nombreux prix fait partie du même groupe.
Whisky Galore signifie “whisky à gogo”, et tire son nom du célèbre naufrage du cargo SS Politician qui sombra en 1941 dans le détroit de Eriskay, au large de la côte ouest de l’Ecosse. Le cargo transportait du whisky, dont les habitants de la région se sont régalés à bon prix
