About Rare Malts

Introduction

The "Rare Malts" collection was born in 1995. The collection was originally meant for selling only in duty free shops but became soon available in good whisky sops. The aim of the collection was to present selected malts to the general public. This malts were not only selected for their quality, but also because they represented a consistent image of a distillery. To elaborate its collection, Diageo selected casks from their old reserves. Selection criteria were rather severe, according to internal Diageo standards. One of the conditions was that there must be at least 3 equivalent casks left before bottling. The malts in this series are not single casks, but small batches.

All bottlings are cask strength, without any water addition nor chill filtering.
Much more information about this collection is available in the excellent book by Ulf Buxrud, to be published by end of October 2006 "Rare Malts: facts, figures and taste".
