The colour is gold with greenish glints, the nose is full and marked by peat, red fruit, liquorice and menthol and animal hints.
The taste confirms the nosing, but is light with a short finish. A very beautiful malt, which is recognized without hesitation at the first nosing.
One could regret a weak body with a lack of persistence.

Personal Comment
This well balanced and very fine malt is characterized by the peat at the first nosing. The exceptionally complex taste leaves a marvelous remembrance, prolonged by a average long finish. A real classic, which cannot miss in any whisky collection. It's price, more than reasonable, makes it one of the best price-quality ratings.
84/100
Peat, but also a kind of spicy freshness characterizes the nose. The palate confirms this, but reveals a great complexity. A kind of medicine? Anyway, the taste is made from several elements, allying liquorice and fruits, peat and salt. A relatively long finish where all the complexity from the palate remains for minutes.
84/100
The nose reveals both peat and fruit, a delicious and delicate contrast withs some additional medicinal hints. In the mouth, smoke and peat, medicine, fruits, and contrast between all this elements. A festival for the papillas, but a bit too weak in my opinion. The finish in pleasant, revealing the same contrasts, with however a domination of dry peat.

Comment by Jon Saunders
This was a first for me. I was given some history of the Laphroaig Distillery process by a dear friend who warned me advance of my tasting, that the distinct "hospital" smell was a product of formaldehyde produced by the peat. At any rate, that did not spoil my experience.
After nosing the sample I felt an inrush of "hospital" smell if you will, followed by a relaxing smooth aromas I presumed to be peat.
The body of the sample was firm, holding on to the inner walls of the tasting glass for nearly 3.5 seconds before starting to "leg down".
It's rigid yet pleasant texture excited the taste bubs of my tongue and I hardly realized I had swallow it except I started to feel comfortably warm.
I have had limited exposure to the vast number of Single Malt distillers up until this last visit to Europe. I shall add this bottle to my collection in the USA and enjoy it for some time. Thank you for accepting my comments.

Nose: Smoke and peaty and something how antiseptic or medicinal.
Palate: Confirm the nose smoke and peaty whit a touch op spicy. Whit whater the smoke is more intense. finish.
A little short but delicious.

Apperance: Pale Copper
Nose: Full, big nose with some smoke and tar. Still, the first impression was of fresh oranges. Freshly aromatic scents. More chemical hints emerge with water, but it's still very pleasant. Overall, the diluted dram is dry, not the most complex but pretty interesting non the less.
Body: Firm and quite oily. Palate: Dryish, fresh, not overly burnt. I recall the 10 y.o. cask strength bottling had a lot more smoke, this one was surprisingly mild. Neat dram is much sweater and also has more smoke and is more mouth filling. I prefer this dram neat.

Comment by Thomas Widter
This has been my favorite bottle of scotch for some time now. I discovered Laphroaig one and a half years ago, shortly after I had moved. My new surroundings are now interwoven with Laphroaig - whenever I taste it, it feels completely like home to me. The peat used creating Laphroaig is a lot mossier compared to other Islay distilleries (it comes from a different part of Islay), and the richness of the spirit, its slightly fragmented but thorough sweetness and its creaminess nicely incorporate the peat flavor. It tastes like an anchor made out of honey-ish candy, that has been lost at sea and been mysteriously brought up by the distillery, broken up and made into barley. On a hot day, the sweetness might need to be cooled down a little: I tend to put a cube of ice in my 10yo on some days. A truly great dram, and a quite affordable one.

Colour: Darker gold, amber.
Nose: A classic nose, it was love at the first sniff: The familar picture of iodine, peat, salt and moss, a cold afternoon in Port Ellen Harbour when there are fires in the chimney. But there is far more to detect: I like that honey note, the gentle flowers which linger in the back and that mildly restrained cane sugar note.
Taste: Here the sugar is a little stronger, but very harmonious bedded between the mighty peat. There is also a pretty pinch of sea salt together with grounded dry chillies, which also dominates the
Finish: Clearly peppered, I did not have that strong and clean chilli finish in my memory (My last bottle was quite 4 years ago). Long and lingering notes of wood, smoke and seaweed.
Conc.: They say now, ten years ago the 10yo was better and more complex (more like the Quarter Cask today, which I also favored in the last years) but I am glad to say, this 10yo is still a classic, a class of its own.

The colour is amber with gold glints, and the strong nose develops peaty, seaworthy and medicinal fragrances.
The mouth, heavy and dry, has a relative fruity sweetness (red fruit, exotic fruit) before being overruled by a iodine and smoke wave.

(la Maison du Whisky)

Personal Comment
A the first nosing, all the richness of this exceptional malt (which one loves or detests) is present. It's high alcoholic percentage does not have a bad influence on this robust and single malt, characterized by the strong fragrances of peat and smoke and by its medicinal character. The finish is very long. An excellent malt for all those who like the Islay style, and who are not afraid by a strong whisky.
84/100
The nose reveals some medicinal hints, just like ether, mixed with peat and sea salt. The very complex smell is also marked by some sweet note, floral ones. In the palate, all the complexity of this whisky is revealed, and the contrast between the rather sweet fruity tastes with salt and peat is extremely pleasant. What a great bottle.

A clear nose, marked by a nice maritim freshness, sea spray behind a veil of peaty smoke and nice fruity notes. In the palate, a clear impression of something between peat and wood, with chocolate hints and the traditional medicinal notes of Laphroaig are present too. Very complex, from unripe walnut to the powerful sweetness of peaty malt. A very nice finish too, lingering and warm, with spicy notes appearing minutes later. This version is clearly better than the preceding release.

The colour is topaz with gold glints, the nose is smoky and detects some peat fragrances mixed with some vegetal hints (hay). Then it develops on open fire ash hints,
The palate is slightly oily, with vanilla and toffee hints. It develops later on soot.
The final is characterized by smoked barley, candied fruit (pear) and exotic fruits (mango, guava). It develops later on smoke and menthol hints.

(La Maison du Whisky)

Personal Comment
No surprise in this edition for those who know the smoky and peaty character of Laphroaig. But none of this characteristics are detected immediately in this marvelous malt. The nose reveals very pleasant and complex hints, and I must think at an Edradour at the first tasting, due to its texture and toffee hints. An exceptionally long and pleasant finish makes this malt an exceptional one. An excellent whisky. I recommend it really.
84/100
Smoke and peat are obviously present from the very first nosing. However, the smell remains quite fresh, and this announces an exceptional malt. In the palate, a very complex taste, developing form the vanilla sweetness to more bitter notes on a smoky background, and a with some discrete spicy touch. A lingering and pleasant finish reminds some very complex impressions, mixing smoke, spices, malt and something else (tar?). Briefly, a wonderful bottle. A must.
88/100
Smoke is very present at the nose, mixed with some marine hints, salted seaweed smells and dry peat. Complex, the nose develops after aeration and new notes, more discrete appear. The peat seems to be accompanied by some more vegetal notes. In the palate, this whisky i pleasant, with notes going from peated smoke to nice woody hints, through some bitter and dry touches. A nice finish, where the bitter character seems to dominate.
84/100
The nose is gently marked by some oily peat and notes of citrus fruit perfectly integrated in the whole. Some medicinal hints of ether. Nice complexity, mixing earth and wet grass, undergrowth, the whole perfectly balanced, and no smell really dominates other ones. Short... superb balance.
The mouth is pleasant too. Some chocolate notes nice peat and here too a perfect balance.
The finish is lingering and warm, prolonging perfectly the mouth.

Comment by Johannes_Sauer
Colour: Golden Brass, light brown (coloured).
Nose: The first sniff reveals full Laphroaig peatsmoke. Lemonpeel, conifer wood and Ginger. Later there are softer subnotes: Raspberry, dried plums and boiled porridge. Those are the notes which part this nose from the 10 yo. But in my rememberance very similar to the younger version (hard to tell, I don’t have a bottle here right now).
Taste: More clearly than the nose suggests: Hefty classic peatsmoke, quickly softening and giving way to the fine dried plums - rasperry (better: forest strawberry) note. A fine and enjoyable whiff from the sea and pinewood forests. Very nice complexity, fully satisfying.
Finish: Most beautiful mingling between peatsmoke and forest fruit.
Conclusion: More baltic sea impressions than Scottish: Isle of Ruegen – Deep spruce and pinewood forests growing direct to the sea. The same notes I find in this dram. Pity they replaced it now with an 18 yo, which I will get me if I can. But I am glad I got a sample from a friend. Thanks a lot, Christian!

Laphroaig quarter cask
Colour : amber with old gold glints
Nose: rich and firm, the nose is marked by notes of chocolate and oily peat. The double effect of Laphroaig is present (peat and sweetness). It develops on grilled peanuts, straw, iodine, salt (sea shells) and finishes on citrus fruit (orange).
Palate: balanced, remarkably fruity, it is marked by roasted coffee. It develops on tar, rubber notes and is nicely spicy.
Finish: lingering, it reveals exotic fruit (mango, passion fruits). Its woody character gives it rather fresh some balsamic flavours.
(la Maison du Whisky)
Personal Comment
The nose is very subtle, and the peat is present without being boring. The sea is nearby, with its salt and its iodine. On the beach, a bucket of abandoned oranges enhances the delicate perfumes this whisky exhausts. In the mouth, the first impression is sweet, but the peat is not far away, neither are spices. Like a layer of prunes above tar. Very nice complexity. A very nice finish as well, where the citrus acidity of the orange gently leaves room to a kind of bitterness, walnuts or coffee grains.
88/100
Apperance: Dull Gold... Looks a bit subdued in color somehow. Might just be the moment. Nose: Full nose with lots of dry smokiness, grilled maize and a little scorched paper. Salty. Smoked trout and burnt seaweed. Reduced nose is a little more feinty and vegitative. Quite prickly. With development the dram lends a distinct smell similar to the wooden furniture inside a Finnish sauna. I'm intrigued by this... Lovely! Body: Medium to full. Pretty tight. Palate: Very pleasantly mouthfilling with a medium long finish. A lot more balanced then I expected.

Comment by Thomas Widter
I know this is considered the most typical of Laphroaig's current expressions by a lot of whisky lovers. I find that I do not agree with them: I still prefer the 10yo over Quarter Cask, because it has a more solid body and more depth to it. Still, the Quarter Cask is a great whisky, if a little bit on the young side. I find the finish a little on the too short, but the taste makes up for that: The seaweedy, peaty flavor is definitely a great achievement. When I heard Master Blender Robert Hicks say that he preferred "his QC with a cube of ice in it", I tried it myself and find it a good idea. Not because of the 48%, but because this practice tames and frees up the spirit at the same time. A very nice dram, much dryer than the 10yo, and therefore a fine contrast.

The nose can be described as being a pleasant and balanced peat feeling without any exaggeration. Very clean. Discrete smoke is rather present as well. Some remote hints of citrus fruit on the background.
The palate is well balanced as well and the first impression is a nice peaty one which develops gently on fresher notes, close to fruity ones but not really. A nice complexity however on a quite limited taste palette, mainly focused on peat.
The finish is long and prolongs perfectly the mouth even if it seems sometimes even more complex.

This is an excellent whisky, but I expected some more of a bottle with such good critics....

The nose is marked by both citrus notes and peat smoke with medicinal hints. This quite austere character seems to develop soon on something much more convivial.
The mouth is clearly more interesting than the nose was. Very nice complexity with hints of chocolate and fish which seem to emerge beneath others ones, more fresh and fruity. Quite an unusual interlacing of tastes. Camphor notes come later, making the whole something very special and pleasant. The very oily palate enhances the pleasure.
The finish is lingering and the hints of oily peat and chocolate prolong the pleasure for many minutes.
88/100
The nose is gently marked by peat with some delicious fruity and acid notes on the background. Nice smoke hints covering the whole hiding some discrete chocolate flavours.
The first nose is marked by dry peat which develops quickly on complex bitter notes, remaining on the peaty register, a mix of fresh citrus acidity and rustic peat. Very pleasant anyway.
The finish is lingering, and if the mouth was marked by the dryness of the peat, the finish is much more oily, less austere.
An excellent bottle.

The nose presents nice oily peat hints. Pretty fruity notes, rather discreet, appear behind the first sod. Peat itself being fairly quiet, all is well balanced although relatively linear.
The palate a has less obvious balance. A slight hinder caused by alcohol at first, but the discomfort disappears very quickly. Once past the first mouth impression, this whisky is developing a more subtle taste. Furthermore peat still appear touches of cocoa, hint of smoke.
The finish is long and warm. The beautiful chocolate notes prolong the pleasure for long minutes.

The first nose is quite aggressive and the presence of alcohol is obvious and causes a quite annoying tingling. Some medicinal notes (ether) followed by a discrete peat, the whole being completed by fresh citrus notes (orange, tangerine).
The palate balances between citrus acidity and peat. Here too a strong presence of alcohol at the first contact. This dims fortunately rather soon, and peat takes control, nicely integrated with the citrus notes which remain all along the tasting. Although a little hinder due to alcohol is indubitable, the mouth is very pleasant.
Finish is rather long and all the citrus acidity seems to have disappeared and peat can express itself freely now.
Very nice cough drop hints appear at the end.

A perfect balance between smoke, peat, iodine and certain bush fruits hints, probably due to the sherry maturation, together with a great complexity of fragrances and tastes make this Laphroaig another great success. A new example of the symbiosis that can exist between the know-how of a wonderful independent bottler and this of one of the most mythic distilleries. A great success, A very great moment in the life of a whisky lover
88/100
The second tasting just confirmed the first one. What a great bottle, near perfection, at least for those who appreciate the Laphroaig style.
88/100
Iodine and peat, mixed with hints of slightly acid fruits on a smoky background characterizes the slightly medicinal nose. In the palate, smoke appears first, followed by touches of peat and a whirl of fragrances allying leather notes and touches of red berries. The finish starts on peaty hints and develops on slightly acid notes.
84/100
A very nice nose where marine, smoky and peaty hints just mix in a perfect balance with some fruity notes. In the mouth, behind the first smoky impressions, some very nice fruity notes, mixed with animal touches develop on a medicinal background. A very nice finish, salted and smoky where some slightly acid hints bring some coloured notes to the whole.
84/100
The nose is a mix of peat, sea and animal hints, meat and old leather on a background or slightly acid citrus fruit. In the mouth, the first impression is very fresh and pleasant, a touch of acidity making soon room for smokey, meaty and then peaty hints, and later on, back on citrus acidity (bitter orange). The finish is warm, relatively long, and between dry peat and citrus, between bitterness and salt.
84/100
Nice presence of smoke and peat. Behind this veil, some hints of citrus fruit and clear animal notes. The whole is a bit "tired" probably due to the fact this bottle has been open for a very long time.
In the palate this peat, diluted in a mix of orange and plum juice remains pleasant, even if it seems to be less magnificent than it used to be.
The rather long finish reveals notes of coffee and chocolate.
The points attributed this time do not really reflect the pleasure, but the lesser quality is due to oxidation and not to intrinsic quality of this bottle. A lower quote could influence the average appreciation in a negative way, even if I clearly remember this whisky has been very good.

A very promising nose, announcing straight away a nice complexity, where peat and its cloud of smoke mixes with some medicinal fragrances, so typically Laphroaig. Despite the high degree of alcohol, the nose detects absolutely no aggressiveness at all, no tingling feeling. In the palate, a real firework of sensations, alternately dominated by peat and citrus fruits, fragrances of dry earth and nicely salted hints before finally developing on roasted coffee beans . A very nice finish, first very dry and earthy before developing on clear sea notes. A very nice surprise.
88/100
The nose consists of subtle peat and smoke hints, with a clear medicinal note, so characteristic of the distillery, the whole mixed with some interesting floral notes. A great freshness! The palate is very complex, with an harmonious alliance of bitterness and acidity, but very nicely perfumed. No monotony. Chocolate hints mixed to seaspray. A dry finish, but so long and complex, developing on more "colourful" notes. A excellent bottle, definitely.

The nose reveals really a very pleasant "Laphroaig", with just the needed smoke, peat and medicinal impressions, but with some floral hints in addition and a rather clear sea spray impression. In the palate, very nice mixes of smoke and fruits, developing quickly from some stealthy citurs fruit fragrances ot exotic fruits, mango or papaya, discretly hidden behind a veil of peaty smoke. Very nice complexity, allied to a very nice smoothness. The finish prolongs perfectly the mouth. An excellent version of Laphroaig, a bit more "colourful" and less austere than the official version of the same age is

An exceptional nose, very refined and peaty, complex with peated and fruity hints. Citrus fruit are present, although rather discrete (tangerine). In the palate, dry peat with nice subtle woody touches. Smoke and citrus, bitterness and salt. A very long finish, very pleasant where peat remains together with smoke and slightly acid fruits.
88/100
A very clear nose with notes of mint, pepper and some meaty hints. A nice complexity. Peat and a veil of smoke hiding some malty notes.
The mouth is close to the nose, complex and pleasant, with citrus notes above the first nosing results. This slightly acid notes make soon room to sweeter ones with a touch of wood before fully revealing the peat, which is taking now an important role the mouth. Alcohol is present too, although not hindering.
The finish is long and very fine. Some discrete medicinal impressions at the end, with nice peaty sniffs.

The nose is first strongly marked by fruity freshness, green apple, before opening the curtain on very marked sea notes. A plate of apples on the beach. Than some nice oily, creamy peat appears. The whole is nicely balanced and generates lots of pleasure. And there is something more, difficult to describe, the little thing unchill filtration conserves in a well grown whisky. A kind of transparent veil covering various well balanced flavours. After a few minutes, a discrete medicinal impression. It remains a Laphroaig... The mouth is remarkably balanced, first very fruity, developing progressively on peat. Peat impression develops constantly, and never gets too dry while keeping the fruity exuberance of the first nose. A remarkable complexity. Chocolate notes. This is a master piece. The finish is long and very warm. Nice peat, remains of chocolate, memory of a very great whisky. Just a pity this whisky is not on the market in its cask strength version...

Salt smoke and the medicinal character of the nose denote clearly the origin of this whisky. Old leather and undergrowth hints follow after a while. Quite an intense nose anyway.
In the palate, all the complex and bitter smoothness of a good Laphroaig. Hints of coffee and tobacco beside the peat. The very high percentage of alcohol is perceptible but does not hinder at all.
A very long and warm finish, with this kind of wild warmth recalling the long evenings round an open wood fire.

Comment by Johannes_Sauer
Colour: Brite straw with soft darker glints Nose: Typical Laphroaig, but interesting and quite different from the regular bottling. The typical terms can be quoted like phenolic, smoky, whiff from the sea etc etc, but there is a very appealing fruitiness (bitter apple, grapefuit peel) combined with rare woods and old leather bound book volumes. Also an interesting and so far seldom experienced note of burnt electric cables (Blown fuse). Taste: W/o water, it’s the typical dryness of a Laphroaig and a fine smoky sweetness (sugar beet syrup - the kind we have in Germany sometimes for breakfast), with water there’s more taste of the cask wood (oak? Hogshead? Quarter cask? The label says nothing) combined with soft grapefruit notes. Finish: This is one really long finish indeed: After the leaving of the soft sweet syrup there is a mighty crescendo of very fine and well rounded smoky and bitter wooden aromes pulling your mouth together for at least 15 minutes.... Conc.: A very interesting and fulfilling Laphroaig but for sure no every-day-dram Date: 22 June 2009

Wow, what a nose! Very maritime one, sea spray flavoured with fruit essences, an entrancing nose. Peat, but not this undergrowth mouldy flavour which is so common. A very nice oily peat, discrete enough to let nice fruity notes appear, prune and very fine exotic fruits. Very complex, with some hints of medicinal touches, discrete but present. After a while, some mint whiffs appear. The whisky could be nosed for hours, and still deliver constantly new impressions.
The mouth is even rich, but the peat is slightly dominant which makes fruits more discrete. The medicinal character is also much clearer, just to recall it is a Laphroaig... The exuberant character of the nose is not to be found in the palate neither, even if it is absolutely impeccable. Nice complexity, great pleasure. Less impressive than the nose, but this was so perfect that you can not expect a mouth at the level...
The finish is long and warm. Nice whisky for the long winter evenings round a nice wood fire. Peat dominates, dryer than is was in the palate and at nosing. The finish is quite contrasting with the nose. A whisky full of surprises. A marvelous bottle.

A very nicely pleasant peat is the very first impression, followed by nice fruity notes. Peat and fruit seem to merge while the time runs... Merging in a perfect balance. Just a touch of citrus fruit which gives the whole a pleasant freshness. In the palate, smoke, citrus and a touch of peat first, followed by ... peat and chocolate. Very nice mouth, even if the disappearance of the fruits which were present at the nose is a bit frustrating. The finish is relatively long and warm with nice notes of peat and chocolate.

Ash and smoke at the first nosing. Behind those hints, some nice fresh herbal notes appear. Peat is obviously present, but does not dominate, living room for nice perfumed notes do develop behind the initial smoke veil.
In the palate, a nicely balanced pleasure made of peaty notes and some fruity fragrances, before finishing on clear peaty and smoky hints.
Those peaty and smoky notes prolong the pleasure for long minutes.
Superb edition.

Despite its young age, the nose of this Laphroaig already has all the distillery characteristics: clear medicinal smells on a peat smoke and burned tar background. In the mouth, the first impression is dry peat, but it quickly developes on warmer nuances, but still in the smoky and peaty pitches. I'd prefered some more character ou more nuances, just like in some other independent bottlings of this distillery, but the whole is very pleasant. The finish is lingering and pleasant, perfectly in line with the palate impressions. I guess I'd prefered this whisky in cask strength version, but this is the case with so many whiskies....

The nose is initially quite discreet. After a few minutes of aeration, peaty and medicinal notes appear. _ Smoke too and alcohol is also very present.
The mouth is very colorful and looks nothing like the nose. Very peaty but fruits also offerin fireworks of flavors to the papillas. Everything is both subtle and complex while remaining balanced.
The finale begins on the same notes as the mouth but extends on very beautiful and long notes of chocolate and nuts.

For the peat lovers, this is a very nice nose. A mix of peat, smoke and citrus fruit hints giving it a nice complexity. A basket of lemons abandoned in a peat bog near a fire.
The mouth gives lots of pleasure too even if this young whisky would probably have been even more pleasant in a cask strength version. Nice presence of smoke and peat. You never would think this whisky is so young.
The finish is merely dominated by smoke.
An excellent whisky.

A mix of sea spray and peat, expressing both a kind of freshness and this typical for this distillery camphorated and medicinal character. The nose is rather flat despite those nice ash notes which come in addition to the first impression.
The first mouth is smoky and slightly acid and develops quickly on medicinal notes.
The finish is rather short and fresh.
A good bottle regarding the quality-price ratio, but certainly not a real "must have" for Laphroaig fans.

Quite a discrete nose even if the medicinal character of the distillery is immediately present. Beyond this, smoke and fruity notes are intimately linked. Interesting nose.
The mouth is marked by pleasant notes mixing peat and fruit with some smoke on the background. A typical Laphroaig... Notes of coffee, cocoa and everything of what makes the pleasure of the palate with this distillery. No hinder due to alcohol, dislike other bottlings in this series.
Nice finish, pleasantly long with still the memories of coffee and chocolate.

A peaty nose but still remarkably fresh. A mix of peat, smoke, Vickx pellet and nice fruity notes appear as a watermark. This complex and extremely pleasant nose is simply superb.
The mouth is the same ilk. Freshness seems to have disappeared in favor of beautiful peaty notes, and then a slow evolution on cocoa or chocolate milk. A subtle development on pleasant bitter touches and a climax in peaty tones.
Cocoa from the end of the mouth dominates here. Very nice finish with finesse and balance. Long and warm, with hints of mint and a sense of eucalyptus drug appearing in a kind of late overlay.
Extraordinary whisky close to perfection. Peat has not always my favor, but here it produces a remarkable effect. A truly outstanding whiskey.

Fireplace, barbecue, wood fire, peat. The nose is very expressive though not overly complex. Smoke foremost, quite subtle but very present marine notes, this is what characterizes this lovely nose.
On the palate, beautiful impressions, more complex than the nose. A nice balance, an explosion of tastes, even if they all revolve around the same theme: smoke, barbecue, toast, bread crust overcooked (yum). Alcohol is present (warm feeling) but never annoying (nice balance and perfect integration).
A lingering and hot finish, where all notes of the mouth are found. A real pleasure because of its wealth.

Beautiful bottle!

A very medicinal nose immediately. Slight tingling appear at first but fade quickly. Very pleasant smell of peat, sea spray, rubber and ashes seem to form the essential elements of the nose. The nose is constantly changing.
The first palate is quite different from that foreshadowed by the nose. The palate is much more complex and goes on top of acid notes, to continue in a register slightly bitter culmination to finish on a mixture of cocoa and chocolate milk. An impressive mouth.
An exceptionally long and warm finish, very intense at the beginning which is characterized mainly by memories of coffee with toast.

The nose is clearly marked by peat and smoke but not exclusively. In addition to the smell of cold, barbecue we perceive some very discrete hints of fruit. There are also some hints of burnt tire ...
The mouth is very pleasant despite undeniable presence of alcohol. Notes of coffee, there is well peat, dominating some timid fruity notes. That's a Laphroaig who does not hide his game Everything is well balanced, even if we would have liked a little more complexity.
Nice long finish and warm wishes. The impressions of coffee persist long enough.

A nice nose where the ashes of barbecue rivals with dry peat. Pepper and other spices, cloves, enrich the whole.
A great first impression. Peat, but far from dominating the whole massively. This is especially a nice balance and an interesting subtlety that characterizes this mouth full of nuances.
The finish is long and warm enough to please the whisky lover I am. A hint of mocha or chocolate milk is added to the fully mastered peat that was already unsealed in the mouth. Here again, subtlety and balance help make this whisky a great whisky.

Barbecue ash and peat characterize the first nose. Some remote medicinal hints and some farmy notes in the background.
The mouth is very subtly balanced, much more than announced by the nose. Very nice notes of chocolate pudding mix with the smoke and peat, but in a very well integrated. A marvel of balance. Nothing too spectacular, but in front of such a quiet strength, we have no need of fireworks.
The finish is very long and warm. Again, this is always subtlety that speaks. Excellent Laphroaig anyway.

Nose: Franc, peat smoke and immediate, with a heavy farmy bottom . Eventually more peat than smoke with something animal, very surprising . I do not get bored!
Palate: restrained, not too much alcohol and a good balance. More classic nose with a calm and coherent development of peat and greasy smoke. Rich and delicate in the genre. The following sips announce fat and sugar cereal. The set is very well mixed and soothing.
By cons, my wife does not like it at all. She found a taste of household chemical: immediate rejection. The cat either ...

Finish: Long but delicate. You do not leave the farm by the sea

Nose: Peat, high sulfur (matches), fireplace and fruit in the background (lemon). Some kerosene fumes.
Palate: The palate perfectly transcribed nose. With an unexpected sweetness.
Finish: Long on one side relative mineral and wood fire.

Nose: Nice and smooth smoky notes. Because of the subtle fragrance, citrus scents are cleary present. After a while notes of wet earth. The lower alcohol (I expect 46%) gives this dram a nice and subtle smell also.
Taste: Mmm... Lovely! Warm, soft with little sweetness directly interspersed with salty influences. Also some spicy notes.
Finish: Long,.. very long followed by a delicious tingling sensation.

Color: Gold
Nose: Fresh and peaty, on a dry peat and medicinal (bandages, antiseptic) before developing a marine aspect (spray a little iodine). Profile very straight and pure, stripped of all frills. By aerating the peat is fatter, with notes of rubber.
Palate: The attack is mild, then it is the outpouring of a young classic Islay, oily peat, liquorice, hints of lemon and salt.
Finish: Long and peaty, with a hint of liquorice.

Conclusion: A whisky for peat freaks. A bit monolithic, but well done. I love.

The nose is superb. One is struck by the smoke and soot with its wet side. Then comes the fruit with a nice pear. A smoke develops into waves.
The palate is round, powerful, fruity. Already found the interview pear nose, but it is being gradually replaced with licorice and finally to lavender.
Smoke returns to finish support for flavors take further.
the final is on the ashes cold and menthol.

Colour: Pale gold.
Nose: Big peat, but clearly enriched by some years in a generous high quality cask that started to polish the beast. Soft vanilla, some organics, and nice citrusy notes.
Mouth: Peat and malt softness. Soot, hashes, and vanilla sugar. Never cloying, thanks to the perfect ABV (50% ?). Yes, the cask has cut the edges, but this malt still has lots of character! Big body. Thick and chewy. Soft violet-flavoured liquorice drops.
Finish: Long and ashy, just like after having smoked a cigar.
Comment: A smoky beast in a sweet-velvet glove. A nice middle-aged Laphroaig? I like it!

The nose is dominated by a beautiful peat and marine wrap. Sweet, but lacking presence, it also shows citrus (lemon), heady flowers (nettle), lavender and violet. The whole thing is very complex. With aeration, a little ash appears.

The mouth is in the continuity of the nose, with a beautiful marine peat. Oily, it also shows a bit of smoke. However, it is a bit monotonous, even if aeration corrects this problem, and shows green olives and coffee. We also have a little something port.

The final length, medium to long, is on peat and salt, with as few citrus (oranges) and herbaceous influence.

In conclusion, a good whisky, with a good presence of peat.

Colour: Pale gold.
Nose: first nose on oily peat, hay, some pungency is changing a touch of rubber very well married, nicely melted. A vegetable note, mint, juniper, pine sap come and in turn enrich the whole. Everything grows in a balanced and consistent, nicely melted way and evolves into notes of yellow fruits.
Palate: Creamy and oily, there are the same notes as on the nose. No aggression, but a pleasant presence of matter.
Finale: In continuation of the mouth and nose, expressive, powerful and moderately long finish.

Comment: A very nice whisky, greedy, and more daily dram.

Nose: typically Islay, begins on peat and marine notes, spray and oysters.
Some citrus in the background, mainly lemon.
With aeration it becomes sweeter and more autumnal fruits, especially apples.
Palate: The peat is present on the cold ashes, lemon, apple, iodine and some spices in the background.
Final: Moderately short, sorry.

Nose: mineral and wet dog. A microtip exoticism in a few moments.
Mouth: peak toasted and delicate peat. Sweet / salty enjoyable. Difficult to analyze but seems complex. Marshmallow.
Final: average and quite mineral. Notes of apple retro-olfaction.
Conclusion: Interesting by its elusiveness (very versatile). A nice little unpretentious whisky that deserves some attention.

Commentaire de Dagde
Nose: There is a very peat vegetal. Yet there is a lot of sugar coating (powdered sugar), giving an artificial appearance. Found in the bottom of the nose a little fruit (plums marinated), but contained in the above-mentioned two flavors. With more aeration, the nose drifting dangerously sulfur notes.
Palate: The peat is powerful, exuberant, ash (a bit rubbery as well). Sweet touches (similar to the nose unfortunately) and malt coming round the corners so a bit messy. The fruity reappears fleetingly after aeration.
Finale: In the continuity of the mouth but by rapidly reducing to the peaty aspect. Rubber spring aftertaste.

Comment: A Whisky that sends bluntly peat powerful and inexorably losing accuracy. If we except the nose a bit more varied, there is a bit simplistic and somewhat artificial (sugar).

The nose is strongly influenced by peat, tar. By looking carefully we find some industrial gingerbread, some marine character and candied orange. On the palate, the attack is sweet and slightly bitter. Peat is still predominant with a hint of licorice, a little orange. The finish is of the same ilk. Good length on the basis of peat. The spices, licorice barely able to balance this power. There are also woods, vanilla and anise.
This whisky is really not my cup of tea as it is monolithic peat. Fortunately, there was the final.

Nose: Floral, malty, slightly rubbery, and with some heather
Taste: Dry, clean, peaty, farmy with some rubber and heather. Diluted, it becomes drier and farmy. The finish is medium to long, dry to very dry, peaty, tarry, ashy and rather rough.
Impression: A clean, simple peat monster with very dry peaty notes, without much compromise.

C : Pale gold.
N : The nose is smoky (with finesse, without exageration). Some iodine notes and herbal notes comes through immediatly, with some rubber. The nose is fresh even though the ash is still hot ; smoky. The pepper is warming.
B : At first soft, then builds in smoke, ash, and warming spice (pepper, cloves) Quite oily in texture.
F : Smoky and salty, on charcoal and pepper.

Colour: Deep golden. Non chill filtered but coloured.
Nose: Typical classic Laphroaig nose, tasty, very similar to the ¼ Cask. There’s maybe more lime peel and marmalade, this fruitiness in the back seems more to fight than to harmonize fully with the typical iodine peat. Also meadow herbs, waldmeister and peppermint patties (after Eight)
Taste: Great fat and fulfilling mouthfeel, but it’s still the fruits (now also dried banana, whalenut, figs and apples) against the peat with no decision who is bound to win. Still the impression of a not right balanced whisky. Few softer Sherry notes, hints of sea weed and cold cigar ash towards the
Finish: Full and warming, long and better balanced than the first impression may suggest.
Conc.: This whisky leaves me a little confused. I tend to realize that the fine Laphroaig spirit is not made to mess around with too many different casks, for this pricing I prefer 2 bottles of other Laphroaig whisky....
