The colour is amber, like all the official bottlings of the distillery. The nose detects a mix of iodium, seaweed, phenols and hints of sherry and smoke.
The palate is exceptionnaly smooth for a presumed rather young whisky.
The taste is dry, salty, peaty and smoky.
The finish adds some spice and pepper to the whole.

A rather astonishing whisky

Personal Comment
This mysterious whisky contains all the ingredients of a really good Islay malt, but the price. The peat, the smoke and the mystery, everything for a reasonable price. A very good bottling to recommand to everybody, especially to those who are not familiar with extremely peaty malts from Islay. A very good but cheap introduction, tupical for the area. At that price, a real must!

A second tasting confirms the conclusions of the first one, with however a long hesitation about the quotation. A very pleasant smoky and peaty nose, a full palate containing all the ingredients of a great bottle. The only slightly negative point is the finish which is too short. This could be due to the fact that, at the difference of most whiskies, adding a drop of water does not have a positive effect. It dilutes the taste, rather than enhancing it. However, after long hesitation, this bottle deserves 18. Nobody obliged me to add water....

The nose was rather floral, with some citrus fruit hints on a malty background at the third tasting. Peat and smoke as well, the whole giving this whisky a nice complexity. But the palate was quite deceiving after the promises of the nose, and the smoke really dominates. The finish is lingering and interesting, dominated by the smoke as well.

A nice nose, with the right proportion of smoke and of peat to make it a worthy representative of one of the most renowned distilleries of Islay. A slightly fruity touch behind a veil of smoke, a touch of citrus. The palate is quite generous, rather complex, with some peat slightly dominating the other aromas, and the taste is rich enough to be nice despite the 40% alcohol of that bottling. A nice finish, pleasant, not too long, where spicy notes come and complete the impression in the palate.

A nice peat quickly followed by smokey hints characterises the first nose. And then it developes slowly to more fruity notes, plum jam.
In the palate, a ashy taste, barbecue, cold tobacco and discrete hints of peat and smoke. A kind of watery feeling however, one could have expected a deeper impression.
The finish is rather long and marked by peat and remote hints of coffee and milk.

The nose is marked by peat and smoke but also by citrus notes giving it some consistence, and a slight tingling sensation. The mouth is less interesting, and some watery feeling follows the first impressions where dryness of peat is brighten up by slightly acid citrus notes. The finish is pleasant, no more, but rather long and all the impressions of the palate are quite present.

The nose is clearly marked by peat and smoke. Some sea hints try to find their way behind this dominant smells. In the palate, a strange acid dominance covers the still present peat. After a while, this acid impression fades away but the whisky does not easily get in balance. After a few minutes smoothness reappears together with smoke and peat. The finish is lingering and warm and the peaty notes give it a very pleasant character.
