Unlike other distilleries presented on this
site, there is no "distillery" page, whith the history
and description of the bottlings. This is rather easy to understand
as the distillery has been mothballed since 1927 and in the meanwhile
entirely altered. It is nowadays a plant belonging to the regional
bus company, West Coast Motors.
This old distillery is presented on this site as an example of a
converted one, and to underline the decline of the town of Campbeltown,
which has been the world capital of whisky, and still represents
a production area on its own, even if Springbank is the only producing
distillery. (with the exception of Glen Scotia, which produces
just a few months a year, with the active help of Springbank...)
Some mistakes of distillery managers in the beginning of the 20th
century caused the ruin of the whisky industry in that area. Most
of them prefered quick profits, and produced minor quality whisky.
A good thing for the industry on very short term, but with catastrophical
results on longer term.
This story can be compared to the history of Lowlands distilling
some decades earlier.

Whisky is an alcoholic drink. Let's prefer quality to quantity as the abuse of alcohol beverages can damage the health. Consuming alcoholic drinks during pregnancy, even in small quantities, can seriously affect the health of the child. Consumption of alcohol impairs your ability to drive a car or operate machinery, and may cause health problems.
